Very important is a road loss of Faenza (1-1) against Palermo (2-0) on Saturday night. Visiting Faenza was defeated by Palermo in Palermo 75-59. They outrebounded Faenza 44-28 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Palermo looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Lithuanian center Ieva Preskienyte (193-93, agency: ProDep Management) had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Francesca Russo (176-96) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Five Palermo players scored in double figures. Point guard Federica Franceschelli (180-97) responded with 15 points and guard Licia Schwienbacher (170-95) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Faenza's coach Cristina Bassi tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Palermo will face Umbertide (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Faenza will play against Spezzina and hope to win that game.
