Regular Season Round 9: Matera - Ortona 100-79

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both thirteenth ranked Matera and 10th ranked Ortona had identical 3-5 record. This time Matera used a home court advantage and outplayed the opponent from Ortona 100-79 on Sunday night. Matera dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Ortona's 30. They outrebounded Ortona 36-24 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Matera looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for naturalized Argentinian swingman Franco Migliori (200-82) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Naturalized Argentinian point guard Matias Di-Marco (179-84, agency: Players Group) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 assists for the winners. Five Matera players scored in double figures. Point guard Gianluca Marchetti (178-93) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 assists and 5 steals and center Luca Malfatti (202-90) added 22 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ortona. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Matera (4-5) moved-up to seventh place in B, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Ortona dropped to the twelfth position with six games lost. Matera will face higher ranked Giulianova (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ortona will play against the league's leader San Severo (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
