Very expected game in Varese where 10th ranked Vanoli Cremona (14-15) was defeated by sixth ranked Openjobmetis VA (16-13) 89-79 on Sunday. Openjobmetis VA looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Nigerian-American swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI) stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Estonian Siim-Sander Vene (201-90) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Drake Diener (196-81, college: De Paul) responded with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import point guard Darius Johnson-Odom (187-89, college: Marquette, agency: BeoBasket) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Openjobmetis VA have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 16-13 record. Loser Vanoli Cremona dropped to the ninth position with 15 games lost. Openjobmetis VA will face Fiat TO (#11) in Torino in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Vanoli Cremona will play at home against Betaland Cdo and hope to win that game.
