Regular Season Round 15: Toshiba BT - Hitachi SR 62-87
Date: January 29, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Toshiba Thunders (18-9) were outscored by fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (18-9) in Kanagawa 87-62 on Friday. The game without a history. Hitachi Sunrockers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Toshiba Thunders' 28. They outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 42-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Hitachi Sunrockers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hitachi Sunrockers made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) added 6 points and 6 assists in the effort for Toshiba Thunders. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toshiba BT. Hitachi Sunrockers will face higher ranked Aishin Sea Horses (#3) in Kariya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toshiba Thunders will play on the road against Hokkaido L. in Saporro and hope to win that game.
