Regular Season Round 18: Hiroshima D. - Hitachi SR 87-98

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Dragonflies (11-21) lost to fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (22-11) in Hiroshima 87-98 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hitachi Sunrockers. Dragonflies was better in second period 25-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hitachi Sunrockers made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Hitachi Sunrockers had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dragonflies were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. The other American import forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (206-85) added 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Dragonflies. Four Dragonflies players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hitachi Sunrockers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toshiba BT. Dragonflies lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 21 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will have a break next round. Dragonflies will play on the road against Hokkaido L. (#6) in Saporro and hope to win that game.
