Regular Season Round 4: Shiga L-Stars - Toshiba BT 59-76

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Toshiba Thunders and one of their biggest challengers Shiga L-Stars had identical 1-1 record. But Shiga L-Stars were not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Kanagawa 76-59 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Toshiba Thunders's pressure prevailed and they won that period 23-11 extending their advantage to 17 points. They made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Toshiba Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Shiga L-Stars were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. The former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) contributed with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and center Samba Faye (205-87) added 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Shiga L-Stars. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toshiba Thunders (2-1) keep a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Shiga L-Stars keep the third place with two games lost. Toshiba Thunders will have a break next round. Shiga L-Stars will play again at home against Toshiba Thunders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
