Regular Season Round 16: Chanson V-M - Mitsubishi K. 59-68

There was a minor upset in Shizuoka where 4th ranked Chanson V-M (12-4) was defeated by sixth ranked Mitsubishi K. (9-7) 68-59 on Sunday. The game without a history. Mitsubishi K. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Chanson V-M to just 6 points in first quarter. Mitsubishi K. dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Chanson V-M's 22. They outrebounded Chanson V-M 44-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mitsubishi K. made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Aya Watanabe (170-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Chika Sakuragi (179-91) who added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side international forward Sanae Motokawa (175-92) responded with 14 points, 9 assists and 5 steals and international center Miyuki Kawamura (183-94) scored 17 points. Mitsubishi K. maintains sixth position with 9-7 record. Loser Chanson V-M keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Mitsubishi K. will meet Yamanashi QB (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Chanson V-M will play against Toyota A. (#3) in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
