Regular Season Round 19: Perkunas - SKM I 84-86

Tenth-rankedPerkunas (4-12) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked SKM I (13-4) in Kaunas on Wednesday. The visitors from Vilniaus managed to secure only two-point victory 86-84 . However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-14 . But Perkunas won second period 19-17 . However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Perkunas 45-33 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. SKM I looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Faustas Binkauskas (192-2007) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Lukas Nikolajevas (187-2007) contributed with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Point guard Dominykas Grunkis (164-2007) answered with 26 points, 7 assists and 4 steals and point guard Martynas Barzdaitis (174-2007) added 25 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Perkunas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SKM I have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-4 record behind leader VKM. Perkunas lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. SKM I are looking forward to face Zalgiris (#7) in Kaunas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Perkunas will play on the road against Marijampoles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
