Regular Season Round 21: Gdynia - Sosnowiec 71-62

Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Gdynia (13-8) defeated at home 9th ranked Sosnowiec (7-14) 71-62 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-12. But Sosnowiec won second period 16-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sosnowiec 39-19 including a 32-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gdynia looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin guard Jelena Skerovic (176-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 9 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. American Ashley Shields (180-85, college: SW Tenn.St.CC) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Gdynia's coach Katarzyna Dydek allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Aishah Sutherland (187-90, college: Kansas) who recorded 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and the former international point guard Anna Bekasiewicz (170-87) added 13 points respectively. Gdynia maintains fifth place with 13-8 record. Newly promoted Sosnowiec dropped to the eighth position with 14 games lost. Gdynia will meet at home MKK Siedlce (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sosnowiec will play against Sleza Wroclaw and hope to secure a win.
