Regular Season Round 18: Casvi - La Roda 76-80

Date: February 13, 2016
There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked La Roda (4-11) beat 11th ranked Casvi (5-10) in Villaviciosa 80-76 on Saturday. Casvi trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 25-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 76-80 at the end of the game. La Roda dominated on the defensive end, holding Casvi to just 7 points in first quarter. They made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Casvi 39-23 including a 28-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Casvi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Senegalese power forward Michel Diouf (208-90) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds. American guard Stephon Carter (193-91, college: CSU Bakersfield) contributed with 29 points for the winners. Forward Jorge Sanchez (198-94) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Pablo Munoz (178-91) added 17 points in the effort for Casvi. Casvi's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. La Roda moved-up to thirteenth place in Group B, which they share with Estudiantes B. Loser Casvi keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. La Roda will face higher ranked Torrelodones (#8) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
