Regular Season Round 7: Vigo VGO - Gijon 69-83

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Vigo VGO (0-5) lost at home to tenth ranked Gijon (2-3) 83-69 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Gijon. Vigo VGO was better in fourth quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. American point guard Nyles Evans (180-92, college: Akron) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American Johnathan Murphy (199-89, college: Columbus St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Lucas Vaquero (185-89) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Vigo VGO. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gijon moved-up to ninth place in Group A-B, which they share with 3 other teams. Vigo VGO lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Gijon will face higher ranked Estudiantes L. (#3) in Lugo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vigo VGO will play on the road against Naron (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
