Regular Season Round 28: Cantbasket - Mondragon 93-92

Everything went according to plan in Santander where fourth ranked Cantbasket (17-9) edged 12th ranked Mondragon (8-18) 93-92 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Cantbasket dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mondragon's 30. Mondragon was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Davie Champagnie (206-90, college: Martin Methodist, agency: SPORTlab Agency) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds and guard David Garcia (192-80) who added 19 points and 8 assists during the contest. At the losing side Simion Mancebo responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Aitor Carrera (180-89) scored 15 points. Five Cantbasket and four Mondragon players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Cantbasket have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position in Group A-A with 17-9 record, which they share with Santurtzi. Loser Mondragon dropped to the fourteenth place with 18 games lost. Cantbasket will face Valle de Egues (#11) in Olaz in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mondragon will play at home against Santurtzi and hope to win that game.
