Spain Regular Season Round 21: Betanzos - Leon 89-85 Date: February 17, 2019 There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Betanzos (7-10) won against at home 7th ranked Leon (10-7) 89-85 on Sunday. They outrebounded Leon 38-21 including 27 on the defensive glass. Betanzos shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 21 rebounds. Daniel Martin (188-97) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Betanzos' coach Ivan Villaverde used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Pablo Ruiz (182-97) who recorded 19 points and 7 rebounds and center Sergio Martinez (208-92) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Betanzos moved-up to ninth place in Group A-B, which they share with Carbajosa. Loser Leon keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Betanzos will face higher ranked Innova Chef (#3) in Zamora in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
