Regular Season Round 11: Cerdanyola - Maresme 76-72

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Cerdanyola (4-7) beat at home higher ranked Maresme (7-4) 76-72 on Saturday. Cerdanyola looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Maresme's players. It was a great evening for power forward Claudia Baraut (181-1994) who led her team to a victory scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Iona Garcia helped adding 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Cerdanyola players scored in double figures. Laia Soler (185-2001, college: Boise St.) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Paula Curto (175-1997) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Cerdanyola maintains tenth place with 4-7 record, which they share with GEIG. Loser Maresme dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Cerdanyola will meet league's second-placed Mataro on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maresme will play against Sant Adria and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the LF Challenge just one year after relegation.
