We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Madrid where 8th ranked Gran Canaria (7-7) was defeated by ninth ranked Estudiantes (7-7) 75-63. International guard Angela Salvadores (178-1997, college: Duke) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Forward Gracia Alonso (180-1992, college: FHU) contributed with 13 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American-Dominican guard Dominique Toussaint (175-1998, college: Virginia) replied with 14 points and Argentinian point guard Melisa Gretter (166-1993) added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Gran Canaria. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Estudiantes moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria lost fourth consecutive game. Estudiantes will play against Ensino (#15) in Lugo in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
