Regular Season Round 17: Genero - Tenerife 55-53

There was a small surprise in Las Palmas where eleventh ranked Genero (6-11) edged 8th ranked Tenerife (8-14) 55-53 on Saturday. Forward Tania Gonzalez (179-1999) stepped up and scored 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and power forward Veronica Matoso (185-1988) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Elena Escuder (-2001) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and forward Andrea Rodriguez (188-1999) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Genero. They moved-up to tenth place, which they share with GMASB. Loser Tenerife keeps the eighth position with 14 games lost. Genero will meet higher ranked Lleida (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tenerife will play against Viladecans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
