Regular Season Round 29: Gernika - Gran Canaria 53-60

There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Gran Canaria (11-19) won against on the road 9th ranked Gernika (13-17) 60-53 on Saturday. American-Nigerian center Nneka Ezeigbo (188-1998, college: RMU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American-Dominican guard Dominique Toussaint (175-1998, college: Virginia) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. The former international point guard Elena Buenavida (174-2004) responded with 15 points and 5 rebounds and center Awa Thiam (192-2006, college: Pima CC) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Gran Canaria maintains twelfth place with 11-19 record. Gernika lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 17 games lost. Gran Canaria will meet at home higher ranked Ferrol (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gernika will play against Ardoi in Zizur Mayor and hope to secure a win.
