Regular Season Round 9: Toros - Marinos 105-100

Round 9 in LPB means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Maracay where host Toros (2-4) beat league's leader Marinos (6-2) 105-100 on Wednesday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 33-21 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Toros looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall) who scored 22 points and 4 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). American-Cape Verdean swingman B.J. Monteiro (195-90, college: Duquesne) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Toros' coach Nacho Lezkano used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-82, agency: Pro Sports) who recorded 22 points and the former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Toros moved-up to eighth place. Defending champion Marinos still keep top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Bucaneros who have the same record. Marinos will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Toros will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Panteras in Caracas.
