The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Marinos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Marinos smashed 8th ranked Panteras in Puerto La Cruz 99-68. The game without a history. Marinos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Marinos looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Dion Dixon (190-89, college: Cincinnati) who led his team to a victory with 22 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) contributed with 6 points and 6 assists for the winners. Swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) answered with 15 points and international forward Junior Martinez (200-92) added 12 points in the effort for Panteras. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Panteras lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 15 games lost. Panteras will play next round against Gaiteros trying to get back on the winning streak. Marinos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
