Regular Season Round 29: Bucaneros - Guaiqueries 72-68

Date: March 2, 2016
There was no surprise in La Guaira where 5th ranked Guaiqueries (11-11) were defeated by second ranked Bucaneros (16-9) 72-68 on Wednesday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The former international guard John Cox (194-81, college: USF, agency: Pensack Sports) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and Spanish-Dominican Orlando Sanchez (206-88, college: St.John's) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Dominican Victor Liz (188-86) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) scored 12 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Bucaneros maintains second place with 16-9 record having just one point less than leader Marinos. Loser Guaiqueries keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. Bucaneros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Guaiqueries will play against Gaiteros (#7) in Maracaibo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
