Regular Season Round 11: Cocodrilos - Gaiteros 63-78

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Cocodrilos (16-4) in Caracas on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Gaiteros (6-10) 78-63. The game was mostly controlled by Gaiteros. Cocodrilos managed to win fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gaiteros had a 34-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). The former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) helped adding 5 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Kelvin Caraballo (195-88) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and Jose Rodriguez (197-94) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gaiteros maintains fourth place with 6-10 record, which they share with Marinos. Defending champion Cocodrilos still keep top position with four games lost. Gaiteros is looking forward to face league's second-placed Trotamundos in Valencia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cocodrilos' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Panteras.
