Regular Season Round 15: Gigantes - Panteras 89-93

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Gigantes (13-15) against fifth ranked Panteras (8-18) on Thursday night. Host Gigantes were defeated by Panteras in a tough game in Puerto Ordaz 89-93. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gigantes. Panteras made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game. Gigantes were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). His fellow American import guard Kareem Canty (185-93, college: Auburn) contributed with 20 points and 5 assists for the winners. American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Leonardo Cappare (186-80) added 20 points in the effort for Gigantes. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach Curro Segura rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras maintains fifth place with 8-18 record. Loser Gigantes keep the third position with 15 games lost. Panteras will face league's leader Guaiqueries in Porlamar in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gigantes will play on the road against Toros in Maracay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
