Regular Season Round 5: Guaiqueries - Panteras 77-94

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Porlamar. Leader Panteras faced 4th placed Guaiqueries. Guests from Caracas (0-0) defeated host Guaiqueries (0-2) 94-77. Panteras dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Guaiqueries' 30. They outrebounded Guaiqueries 38-21 including 26 on the defensive glass. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 7 assists. Swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) contributed with 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. The former international forward Derwin Ramirez (191-82) answered with 22 points and 4 assists and guard Juan Mejias (184-96) added 22 points in the effort for Guaiqueries. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Panteras went down to third position (Eastern Conference) due to points difference. Guaiqueries at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with Marinos. Panteras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Guaiqueries will play again at home against Panteras (#3) and hope to get finally their first victory.
