Outlook (by NBADraft.TK):
Positives: Has above average ball handling skills for his size. Shows 3 point range and a good jumper for his size. Has decent athleticism for his size, but is not nearly as quick or mobile as some people believe. With his ball handling skills and enormous stature, Chiriaev could potentially cause match up problems for opposing coaches. Very determined player and hard worker. A couple years ago he was extremely lanky after coming from Russia to Canada. He hit the weight room and put on a lot of bulk.
Negatives: Although Chiriaev has tremendous potential, he is still very much a project. Very, very, VERY, raw. Needs a lot of work to become a good player. Has some skills, but they could all use a lot of work. Turnover prone, ball handling can be erratic at times. Thinks he can play point guard at the NBA level, but this is not even a possibility. He is has no quickness or explosiveness, and will not be able to drive past any NBA player. Can't break people down off the dribble. Not a great scorer proven by the fact that he only averaged 16ppg in the Canadian high school league at 7 feet. Has no post moves or back-to-the-basket ability. Hangs around the perimeter too much, despite the fact his jumpshot is shaky at best. Very inconsistent shooter and scorer. Plays on the outside too often and does not crash the boards enough for his size. Most guards in the NBA will be able to outrebound Chiraev. Is a matador on defense allowing anybody to get past him. Very easy for any player with minimal quickness and driving ability to get past Chiriaev. No shot blocking presence or intimidator on D. Very cocky and arrogant despite his mediocre abilities.
