Azerbaijani ABL round 5 best performance: Xavier Rhodes

American Guard Xavier Rhodes (185-G-2000) had a very impressive game in the last round for Gence BK Ganja, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 26-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, four rebounds and seven assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team NTD (#8, 0-5) with 20-point margin 100-80. Gence is placed at 4th position in Azerbaijani ABL. Gence is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-2 record. In the team's last game Rhodes had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Gence and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Xavier Rhodes averages this season 11.5ppg.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Tyler Johnson (188-G-2001) of Ordu. Johnson had a very good evening with 27 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course Ordu cruised to a 84-76 relatively comfortable win over the higher-ranked Nakhchivan (#2, 3-1). Ordu's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 2-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Johnson is a newcomer at Ordu, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.5ppg (#5).

Third on the list of top players last round was American Galen Smith (204-C/F-1999) of NTD BH Baku (#8). Smith scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds (!!!). Despite Smith's great performance the NTD lost 80-100 to the higher-ranked Gence (#4, 2-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. NTD can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 5 games. Smith has individually a great season in Azerbaijan. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.6rpg (3rd best).
