Date: February 22, 2014
A very interesting game took place in Speyer. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 11th ranked Speyer (7-13) to fifth ranked Fraport Skyliners II (11-9) 69-67 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was a great shooting night for Fraport Skyliners II especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. The winners were led by point guard Max Merz (184-94) who scored that evening 16 points and 5 rebounds and center Tim Oldenburg (202-92) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Fraport Skyliners II players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Marcus Smallwood (200-82, college: N.Illinois) did not help to save the game for Speyer. Swingman Alexander Kuhn (198-92) added 12 points for the hosts. Fraport Skyliners II have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group South, which they share with Dragons and Leipzig. Speyer lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost.
