Regular Season Round 7: Nuernberg - Bayer Giants 78-52

There was no surprise in Nurnberg where 14th ranked Bayer Giants (1-6) were crushed by tenth ranked Nuernberg (4-3) 78-52 on Friday. Nuernberg dominated down low during the game scoring 36 of its points in the paint compared to Bayer Giants' 16. The game was also dominated by American players. Guard Jud Dillard (196-91, college: Tenn Tech) fired 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Nuernberg's coach Ralph Junge felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Marc Sonnen (190-90, college: N.Iowa) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Jake Koch (206-90, college: N.Iowa) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Nuernberg moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Bayer Giants lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the fourteenth position with six games lost. Nuernberg will face higher ranked Science City Jena (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bayer Giants will play against Finke Baskets (#9) in Paderborn and hope to win that game.
