Very expected game when 13th ranked Istanbul BSB (2-6) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Besiktas (5-3) 80-66 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Besiktas. Istanbul BSB was better in third quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game, while Istanbul BSB only scored nine points from the stripe. Istanbul BSB was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American center Hilton Armstrong (210-84, college: Connecticut) who scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. The other American import guard Chris Lofton (188-86, college: Tennessee) chipped in 17 points. American power forward Alex Stepheson (208-87, college: USC) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and American-Bosnian guard Zack Wright (191-85, college: Central Mo.) added 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Besiktas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Istanbul BSB lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourteenth position with six games lost. Besiktas will face TED Kolejliler (#10) in Ankara in the next round where they are favorite. Istanbul BSB will play at home against Turk Telekom (#9) and hope to win that game.
