Regular Season Round 16: Zalgiris - P.Zvaigzdes 82-78

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Zalgiris as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Zalgiris defeated 7th ranked P.Zvaigzdes in Kaunas 82-78. P.Zvaigzdes was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 25-18 charge of Zalgiris, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Zalgiris outrebounded P.Zvaigzdes 36-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Paulius Jankunas (203-84) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 8 rebounds. The former international center Robertas Javtokas (210-80, college: Arizona) contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Zalgiris' coach Gintaras Krapikas used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Laimonas Kisielius (203-85, college: William & Mary) replied with 13 points and point guard Aidas Viskontas (185-86) added 13 points and 5 assists in the effort for P.Zvaigzdes. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris (12-1) have an impressive 11-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. P.Zvaigzdes at the other side keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. P.Zvaigzdes will play next round against strong Neptunas trying to get back on the winning streak. Zalgiris will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Juventus in Utena.
