Regular Season Round 17: Juventus - Zalgiris 75-76

The most exciting game of round 17 in the LKL took place in Utena. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Juventus (10-5) to first ranked Zalgiris (13-1) 76-75 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 17 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 1 point. 25 personal fouls committed by Juventus helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international center Robertas Javtokas (210-80, college: Arizona) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and the former international Paulius Jankunas (203-84) chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds. Zalgiris' coach Gintaras Krapikas used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American-Samoan point guard Rashaun Broadus (180-84, college: BYU) responded with 25 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Saulius Kulvietis (203-91) scored 12 points. Zalgiris have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-1 record. Juventus at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Dzukija (#5) in Alytus in the next round. Juventus will play on the road against the league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
