A very close game took place in Essen between MLP Academics Heidelberg and ETB Wohnbau. MLP Academics Heidelberg (1-1) got a very close victory on the road over ETB Wohnbau (0-2). MLP Academics Heidelberg managed to escape with a 1-point win 78-77 on Friday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 37-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. American swingman Shy Ely (193-87, college: Evansville) notched 22 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international Johannes Lischka (203-87) supported him with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Even 24 points and 6 rebounds by American guard Tre Bowman (196-91, college: Iona) did not help to save the game for ETB Wohnbau. Brian Wenzel (196-91) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. MLP Academics Heidelberg will meet Hamburg (#8) on the road in the next round. ETB Wohnbau will play against Nuernberg in Nurnberg and hope to win that game.
