Regular Season Round 8: Palanga - Ezerunas-Karys 69-71

The most exciting game of round 8 in the NKL took place in Palanga. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of second-ranked Palanga (6-2) to thirteenth ranked Ezerunas-Karys (2-6) 71-69 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Palanga. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Palanga won third quarter 24-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ezerunas-Karys dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Palanga's 26. They outrebounded Palanga 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Forward Raimundas Ambrulaitis (200-82) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Dominykas Zupkauskas (188-96) contributed with 11 points and 8 assists for the winners. Center Matas Jucikas (205-94) replied with 18 points and 7 rebounds and forward Aurimas Urbonas (197-93) added 14 points and 4 assists in the effort for Palanga. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ezerunas-Karys moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Rasai and Perlas-MRU. Palanga at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Ezerunas-Karys is looking forward to face Rasai (#13) in Raseiniai in the next round. Palanga will play on the road against the league's second-placed Suduva-Mantinga (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
