Regular Season Round 5: Karlsruhe - Weissenhorn 78-74

Everything went according to plan when leader BG Karlsruhe (5-0) won against at home 5th ranked Weissenhorn Youngstars (3-2) 78-74 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Weissenhorn Youngstars were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American Marcus Smallwood (200-82, college: N.Illinois) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import center Jeremy Black (203-85, college: Tampa, agency: Court Side) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Smallwood attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. American point guard Christopher Anderson (170-92, college: San Diego) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and naturalized Austrian point guard David Kramer (191-97) added 15 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Weissenhorn Youngstars players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for BG Karlsruhe. They maintain first place in South with 5-0 record. Loser Weissenhorn Youngstars dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. BG Karlsruhe will face Licher Basket (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Weissenhorn Youngstars will play against the league's second-placed Ehingen/Urspringschule (#2) in Allmendingen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
