Rather expected game when 12th ranked Telekom Baskets (6-10) were crushed on the road by tenth ranked Phoenix Hagen (8-8) 106-82. The game without a history. Phoenix Hagen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 27-of-35 charity shots (77.1 percent) during the game. Phoenix Hagen outrebounded Telekom Baskets 44-26 including a 16-4 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists. Telekom Baskets were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. The winners were led by power forward Ivan Elliott (203-86, college: UCSB) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and D.J. Covington (203-91, college: VMI) supported him with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Even 20 points and 6 rebounds by Aaron White (206-92, college: Iowa) did not help to save the game for Telekom Baskets. Point guard Eugene Lawrence (184-86, college: St.John's) added 13 points and 8 assists for lost side. Five Phoenix Hagen and four Telekom Baskets players scored in double figures. Telekom Baskets' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Phoenix Hagen maintains tenth position with 8-8 record. Telekom Baskets at the other side keep the twelfth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Bayreuth. Phoenix Hagen will play against higher ranked Braunschweig (#9) in Braunschweig in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
