Regular Season Round 16: Dragons - Nuernberg 83-65

Date: January 2, 2016
Bottom-ranked Dragons Rhoendorf managed to get a second victory, breaking the five-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time newly promoted Dragons Rhoendorf won against ninth-ranked Nuernberg 83-65. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 18-point difference suggests that Dragons Rhoendorf is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Nuernberg. Dragons Rhoendorf looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American power forward Justin Smith (201-87, college: Hawaii-Hilo) fired 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Swingman Tim Schonborn (191-90) chipped in 18 points. American forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso) produced 13 points and 6 rebounds and guard Mario Blessing (188-92, college: USC Upstate) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Dragons Rhoendorf maintains sixteenth position with 2-14 record. Loser Nuernberg keeps the ninth place with eight games lost. Dragons Rhoendorf will meet league's leader Science City Jena on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Nuernberg will play against Finke Baskets (#14) and hope to secure a win.
