Twelfth-ranked Baunach (7-11) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Hamburg (11-7) on Saturday. Hamburg managed to secure only three-point victory 70-67. However their fans expected much easier game. Point guard Anthony Canty (183-91, agency: Octagon Europe) notched 23 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and guard Steffen Kiese (189-87) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Even 19 points and 8 rebounds by Johannes Thiemann (203-94) did not help to save the game for Baunach. Andreas Obst (192-96, agency: Beo Basket) added 18 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hamburg maintains fifth position with 11-7 record. Loser Baunach dropped to the eleventh place with 11 games lost. They share the position with ETB Wohnbau and Hanau. Hamburg will meet Koeln Rh.Stars (#8) on the road in the next round. Baunach will play against Dragons Rhoendorf and hope to secure a win.
