Fourth-ranked Rilski (9-6) gave a tough game to first ranked Lukoil Acad. (14-1) in Sofia on Saturday. Lukoil Acad. managed to secure only three-point victory 91-88. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rilski. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 30-20 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Lukoil Acad. made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Rilski helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Croatian forward Zeljko Sakic (204-88, agency: Beo Basket) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Montenegrin power forward Filip Barovic (207-90, agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Five Lukoil Acad. players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Frank Turner (178-88, college: Canisius, agency: Inception Sports) with 26 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import power forward Tony Gugino (207-86, college: Hillsdale) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-1 record. Rilski at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Lukoil Acad. are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Chernomorets (#10) in Burgas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rilski will play at home against Academik Plovdiv (#8) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
