Regular Season Round 23: Nevezis - Dzukija 91-81

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Dzukija's (5-16) road loss to ninth ranked Nevezis (7-13) 81-91. The game was mostly controlled by Nevezis. Dzukija was better in second period 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Nevezis won last quarter 30-21. They made 22-of-24 charity shots (91.7 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Dzukija helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Darius Gvezdauskas (191-88) who led the winners and scored 32 points (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Center Mindaugas Kupsas (217-91, agency: Octagon Europe) accounted for 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Nevezis players scored in double figures. Power forward Julius Jucikas (205-89) came up with 27 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Jeff Robinson (198-88, college: Seton Hall) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Dzukija in the defeat. Dzukija's coach Andrej Urlep tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Nevezis moved-up to eighth place. Dzukija at the other side stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Nevezis' next round opponent will be higher ranked Lietkabelis (#7) in Panevezys and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dzukija will play on the road against the league's leader Zalgiris and will have a slim chance for a victory.
