We should mention about the upset which took place in Bremerhaven, where higher ranked Telekom Baskets (7-13) lost to seventeenth ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (5-15) in a road game 72-87. Telekom Baskets were ahead by 9 points at the halftime before a 49-25 second half run of Eisbaeren Bremerhaven. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Telekom Baskets' 30. Power forward Jannik Freese (211-86, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville) contributed with 15 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven's coach Chris Harris allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import point guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) added 16 points in the effort for Telekom Baskets. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven moved-up to sixteenth place. Telekom Baskets at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Bayreuth. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will play against higher ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (#4) in Frankfurt in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Telekom Baskets will play at home against BG Goettingen (#17) and hope to get back on the winning track.
