Regular Season Round 21: Bayreuth - Crailsheim 78-70

Date: February 6, 2016
Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (5-15) lost on the road to twelfth ranked BBC Bayreuth (8-13) 78-70. It looked good early as Crailsheim Merlins took a 16-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then BBC Bayreuth took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 8 points. They made 24-of-31 charity shots (77.4 percent) during the game. BBC Bayreuth outrebounded Crailsheim Merlins 43-27 including 19 on the offensive glass. 27 personal fouls committed by Crailsheim Merlins helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Travis Leslie (193-90, college: Georgia) who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Steve Wachalski (202-83) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jordan Callahan (184-90, college: Tulane) who recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import swingman Shy Ely (193-87, college: Evansville) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. BBC Bayreuth maintains twelfth place with 8-13 record, which they share with Telekom Bsk. Crailsheim Merlins lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the fifteenth position with 15 games lost. BBC Bayreuth's next round opponent will be BG Goettingen (#17) on the road which should be theoretically an easy game. Crailsheim Merlins will play against the league's leader Brose Baskets where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
