Regular Season Round 21: Karlsruhe - Licher Baeren 83-77

Date: February 27, 2016
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Licher Basket (7-14) was defeated on the road by second ranked BG Karlsruhe (17-4) 83-77 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was American Marcus Smallwood (200-82, college: N.Illinois) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Rouven Roessler (198-80) chipped in 15 points. Smallwood is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four BG Karlsruhe players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized American swingman Elijah Allen (195-89, college: NW Missouri St.) who recorded 26 points and center Marian Schick (204-86) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Licher Basket's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. BG Karlsruhe have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of South leader, which they share with Ehingen. Loser Licher Basket dropped to the tenth place with 14 games lost. BG Karlsruhe will face league's leader Ehingen/Urspringschule in Allmendingen in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Licher Basket will play at home against Speyer (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
