Not a big story in a game when 18th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (5-21) were defeated at home by tenth ranked Braunschweig (12-14) 88-79 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Crailsheim Merlins won third quarter 28-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Braunschweig made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Braunschweig outrebounded Crailsheim Merlins 32-20 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Kenny Frease (212-89, college: Xavier) scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Derek Needham (180-90, college: Fairfield) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Braunschweig's coach Raoul Korner allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international forward Konrad Wysocki (200-82, college: Princeton) responded with 20 points and American power forward Adam Chubb (208-81, college: Pennsylvania) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Braunschweig maintains tenth position with 12-14 record. Crailsheim Merlins lost eleventh consecutive game.
