Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (7-20) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Giessen 46ers (14-12) 82-74 on Monday. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 12 after three quarters before a 26-22 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 74-82 at the end of the game. Giessen 46ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for British center Gabriel Olaseni (211-91, college: Iowa, agency: Pensack Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds. Naturalized Cuban swingman Yorman Polas (192-85) helped adding 9 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international Philip Zwiener (201-85) with 11 points and 5 rebounds and American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville) scored 12 points. Five Eisbaeren Bremerhaven players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Giessen 46ers moved-up to eighth place. Loser Eisbaeren Bremerhaven dropped to the fifteenth position with 20 games lost. Giessen 46ers will meet at home Braunschweig (#10) in the next round. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will play against BBC Bayreuth (#12) and hope to secure a win.
