Regular Season Round 35: Dzukija - Vytautas 67-61

The game between third ranked Vytautas (18-14) and tenth ranked Dzukija (7-25) was the most important one in the last round on Wednesday night. Vytautas was defeated by Dzukija in a tough game in Alytus 61-67. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Vytautas. Vytautas was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Dzukija made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Dzukija made 7 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Vytautas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for power forward Julius Jucikas (205-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Forward Osvaldas Macernis (200-82) helped adding 10 points and 8 rebounds. Dzukija's coach Andrej Urlep used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Vaidas Cepukaitis (207-89, agency: Interperformances) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and the former international point guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (187-89) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Dzukija maintains tenth place with 7-25 record. Vytautas at the other side keeps the third position with 14 games lost. Dzukija are looking forward to face higher ranked P.Zvaigzdes (#8) in Pasvalys in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vytautas will play at home against the league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
