Regular Season Round 1: ETB Wohnbau - MBC 64-107

ETB Wohnbau was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Weissenfels 107-64 on Saturday night. Mitteldeutscher BC dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to ETB Wohnbau's 22. Mitteldeutscher BC forced 20 ETB Wohnbau turnovers and outrebounded them 38-22 including a 26-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mitteldeutscher BC looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. ETB Wohnbau was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for naturalized American forward Sergio Kerusch (195-89, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Octagon Europe) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Marcus Hatten (185-80, college: St.John's) contributed with 17 points, 9 assists and 4 steals (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Five Mitteldeutscher BC players scored in double figures. American point guard Chris Alexander (186-83, college: Southern) answered with 21 points (made all of his seven free throws) and the other American import forward Eric Thompson (203-93, college: Pacific) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for ETB Wohnbau. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mitteldeutscher BC will face Baunach (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ETB Wohnbau will play against Gladiators in Trier and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
