Regular Season Round 11: Petrochema - Vytis 74-80

Rather expected game in Jonava where 10th ranked Petrochema (3-8) was defeated by eighth ranked Vytis (5-6) 80-74. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Petrochema won third quarter 27-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vytis made 23-of-28 charity shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Petrochema only scored six points from the stripe. Strangely Petrochema outrebounded Vytis 42-25 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points. Center Edvinas Jezukevicius (207-90) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Vytautas Pikalavicius (197-90) answered with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Justas Vazalis (197-96) added 17 points in the effort for Petrochema. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Petrochema's coach Kestutis Narusevicius rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Vytis have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with KTU. Petrochema at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Vytis' next round opponent will be higher ranked Perlas-MRU (#3) in Vilnius and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Petrochema will play on the road against Nafta-Uni. (#6) in Klaipeda and hope to win that game.
