Very expected game when 14th ranked Science City Jena (2-6) was defeated at home by leader ratiopharm Ulm (9-0) 84-74 on Saturday. ratiopharm Ulm made 33-of-35 free shots (94.3 percent) during the game, while Science City Jena only scored fifteen points from the stripe. Science City Jena was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Da'Sean Butler (201-88, college: W.Virginia, agency: Inception Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. International point guard Per Guenther (185-88) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four ratiopharm Ulm players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Julius Jenkins (187-81, college: Georgia South) who recorded 27 points, 5 assists and 5 steals and the other American import guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: Middle Tenn.St.) added 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for ratiopharm Ulm. They maintain second place with 9-0 record behind leader Brose Bask. Newly promoted Science City Jena dropped to the fifteenth position with six games lost. ratiopharm Ulm will face bottom-ranked Phoenix Hagen (#18) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Science City Jena will play against Braunschweig in Braunschweig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
