Regular Season Round 9: Phoenix Hagen - Walter Tigers 76-98

Bottom-ranked Phoenix Hagen (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 98-76 loss to fifteenth ranked Walter Tigers (3-6) in Hagen on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix Hagen's 40. Walter Tigers looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American point guard Jared Jordan (187-84, college: Marist) stepped up and scored 17 points and 9 assists for the winners and naturalized American forward Isaiah Philmore (203-89, college: Xavier) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds. Five Walter Tigers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Trent Plaisted (211-86, college: BYU) with 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import point guard David Bell (188-81, agency: Three Eye Sports) scored 16 points and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Walter Tigers moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Bremerhaven. Phoenix Hagen lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. Walter Tigers will meet at home higher ranked BBC Bayreuth (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Phoenix Hagen will play against the league's second-placed ratiopharm Ulm (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
