Regular Season Round 9: Keltern II - Heidelberg 40-79

2. Bundesliga top team - BasCats Heidelberg (9-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Keltern II (2-6) 79-40. The game was mostly controlled by BasCats Heidelberg. Keltern II was better in fourth quarter 11-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BasCats Heidelberg held Keltern II to an opponent 23.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 48.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Keltern II 38-22 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Her fellow American import point guard Serena Benavente (167-85, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Leonie Elbert (169-96) answered with 6 points and 5 rebounds and Schubitschew Sara added 8 points in the effort for Keltern II. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for BasCats Heidelberg. They maintain first place in South with 9-0 record. Newly promoted Keltern II keeps the ninth position with six games lost. BasCats Heidelberg will face league's second-placed Don Bosco Bamberg at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Keltern II will play against Rhein Main Baskets (#8) in Langen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
