Regular Season Round 17: Wels - Arkadia 87-79

Date: January 5, 2017
There was no surprise when 6th ranked Arkadia Lions (6-9) were defeated on the road by third ranked Raiffeisen Wels (10-6) 87-79. The hosts were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-18 Arkadia Lions' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 87-79 at the end of the game. Raiffeisen Wels players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American guard DeJuan Wright (190-88, college: FIU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Kevin Payton (196-86, college: Minnesota) contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. Argentinian-Italian forward Fabricio Vay (207-86, agency: Interperformances) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and guard Benedikt Guettl (190-94) added 22 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Arkadia Lions. Five Raiffeisen Wels and four Arkadia Lions players scored in double figures. Raiffeisen Wels maintains third place with 10-6 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Oberwart. Arkadia Lions at the other side keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Raiffeisen Wels will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Arkadia Lions will play on the road against the league's second-placed Gmunden Swans (#2) in Gmunden and hope to get back on the winning track.
